Replace Closet Doors With Sliding Doors

Before you replace the doors you should first look at your hardware.

Replace closet doors with sliding doors.

Sometimes the doors are in good condition but the hardware is what prevents them from functioning. Then compress the door like a sandwich lift up from the bottom and remove the door from the bottom brackets. Then tilt the door until you re able to remove it from the track attached to the top of the door frame. Reach up to the top of the door and if there is a locking lever push down to release it.

1 remove the old door. Prep the top of the door to accommodate the new doors. Remove the old doors and the old closet track and any extra molding inside the door frame 1a. Here are a few tips to make the job easier and to help you narrow down your choices.

Pop the door rollers off the track unscrew the track from the header and remove it. Step 1 evaluating hardware. Using a pry bar or claw hammer pull all the trim and casing off the old door opening. If something damages the track or the sliding mechanism the doors won t operate properly.

Once i took out the old molding i had to put in a filler piece to lower the top of the doorframe to be level with the door molding at the top.
